The most popular destinations in the northeastern region are Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan and Cao Bang. The winding road through the mountains is like a silk ribbon leading travelers to unforgettable experiences. The northeast tours go through several provinces taking tourists several days. Visiting the region after Tet, tourists are amazed by all the flowers. Ha Giang Karst plateau is a popular destination because it has beautiful wild flowers called Tam Giac Mach flowers which blossom in April. This is a beautiful setting for wedding photos. On the stone plateau there are several famous features including Tan Trao banyan tree and Ban Gioc waterfall.
Covering the districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac, Dong Van Karst Plateau is recognized a the Global Geopark by UNESCO, the only Global Geopark in Vietnam and one of only two in Southeast Asia. The road to Dong Van is characterized by grey rocks and tiny houses hidden behind stonewalls. If you visit this place in October, you will see Dong Van karst plateau blossoming. The grey rock mountains become more prominent with colorful dots of varieties of wild flowers while the valleys are blanketed with purple wild flowers.
After exploring the magnificent beauty of Ha Giang mountains, visiting Dong Van market, travelers learn more about the lives of local ethnic minority people. The market meets every Saturday and Sunday in the center of Dong Van. A variety of exotic colorful brocade products, and special local food and wine are on sale, yet food shops are always the most exciting places.
Warm and cozy restaurants are always the travelers’ final stops of the day, where they can sample tasty and spicy grilled meat, sticky rice and warm wine. “Each market is unique. I have visited markets of Mong, Tay and Dao ethnic minority peoples and I have bought a lot of things. In Bac Ha market in Lao Cai, I bought local wine and in Ha Giang, I bought a brocade hat”, said a tour guide.
Ma Pi Pleng pass in Ha Giang province is another popular destination of tourists. The 7-km-long pass is quite steep and has several hairpin turns. To the north and northwest are ranges of mountains leading to the horizon. During 5-day tours of the region, tourists have time to visit a former H’mong King house and a mountain peak called Quan Ba Heaven Gate. Leaving Ha Giang, tourists are advised to go to Bac Kan and Cao Bang to discover more of the hidden charm of Vietnam.
DAY 1: HA NOI – HA GIANG (L, D)
06h30 - 07h30: Get picked up at the appointed site in Hanoi for departure to Ha Giang, en route stop for lunch in Viet Tri.
Upon arrival in Ha Giang, check in to hotel, have dinner and spend the night at your own leisure. Stay overnight in your hotel in Ha Giang City.
DAY 2: HA GIANG – LUNG CU – DONG VAN (B, L, D)
06h30: Have breakfast at hotel and get on bus for transfer to Dong Van Rock Plateau, where you can admire the imposing pristine beauty of the mountainous Northeastern Vietnam. Our bus passes over 40 km and stops at the highest point of the pass – Quan Ba Heaven Gate (1,500 m high). From here, you can catch a nice panoramic view of Tam Son Town, Quan Ba Commune and its surrounding areas. Admire Quan Ba Twin Mountain which looks like two cherries as an art of nature. The morning trip also include Pho Bang Town (a China town in Ha Giang), Sung La Village of Mong ethnic people and the Mansion of Vuong Chi Sinh King, a beautiful and unique architecture of upland that has been classified as a relic from 1993. Have lunch and check in to hotel in Dong Van.
14h00: Pay visit to the Northern-most location of Vietnam - Lung Cu. The flag pole of Lung Cu is an important landmark marking the border division between China and Vietnam.
Transfer back hotel. Have dinner with special food of Vietnam’s northern upland. Stay overnight in Dong Van.
DAY 3: DONG VAN – MEO VAC – TUYEN QUANG (B, L, D)
06h30: After your breakfast at hotel, you are transferred to visit Dong Van Market which opens in Sunday only. The market is well-known for its primal trading. Here you can see the way the locals buy and sell and select some craft items as gifts to bring home.
09h00: Get on bus to start the route to Tuyen Quang. Stop amid the way to admire the magnificent Ma Pi Leng Pass and Nho Que River and to walk on the Happy Road which was built by thousands of Vietnamese young volunteers. Drop in on Meo Vac Town to buy upland special products then continue to travel towards the M-shaped road to reach Bac Me.
12h00: Have lunch in Bac Me. Continue the route to Tuyen Quang. Check in to hotel in Tuyen Quang City, have dinner in restaurant and spend the night your way. Stay overnight in Tuyen Quang.
DAY 4: TUYEN QUANG – TAN TRAO – BA BE LAKE (B, L, D)
07h00: Breakfast is served in restaurant. Pay morning visits to the Green Tree Temple (dedicated to the daughter of the God of Mountain), Tan Trao relic complex with Hong Thai Communal House, Tan Trao banyan tree and Na Lua shed where President Ho Chi Minh lived from June to August 1945. Listen to explanations about the revolutionary base of Vietnamese army and people during the war against French invaders.
12h00: After lunch in local restaurant, we travel to Ba Be Lake, enjoy a leisurely boat trip on the lake to admire the natural beauty of Puong Cave, Ao Tien, Dau Dang waterfall and Ba Goa Islet.
Check in to hotel. Have dinner with local specialties and stay overnight in your hotel.
DAY 5: BA BE LAKE – PAC BO CAVE – CAO BANG (B, L, D)
07h00: Have breakfast and check out of hotel. Our bus moves to Cao Bang. Check in to hotel and have lunch in Cao Bang.
14h00: Discover the historical relic complex of Pac Bo, including Lenin Stream, Karl Marx Mountain and the famous Coc Bo cave where President Ho Chi Minh, when turning from 30 years abroad, established his residennce and worked from 1941-1945. This is also the land where he proposed guidelines, policies and important decision for the revolution of national liberation in period of 1941-1945. Burn incense at the memorial monument of Hero Nong Van Den (also called Kim Dong).Return to Cao Bang Town for dinner and relaxation
DAY 6: CAO BANG – BAN GIOC FALLS – LANG SON (B, L, D)
07h00: After breakfast time, get transferred to Ban Gioc Falls, which is considered one of the nicest falls in Vietnam. Ban Gioc falls thirty meters. It is separated into three falls by rocks and trees, and the thundering effect of the water hitting the cliffs can be heard kilometers away.
Have lunch in Cao Bang then leave for Lang Son. Check in to hotel in Lang Son, have dinner with Lang Son special dishes and stay overnight in Lang Son.
Have breakfast and get on bus to visit top destinations of Lang Son, including Tam Thanh Cave, Nhi Thanh Cave and Dong Kinh Market.
09h30: Leave Lang Son for Bac Ninh City. Have lunch in local restaurant while enjoying Bac Ninh traditional folk songs “quan ho” which has been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
Afternoon visits include trip to Phat Tich Pagoda where located Vietnam’s biggest Buddha rock statue and Do Temple dedicated to 8 kings of Ly Dynasty.
17h00: Return back to Hanoi. Tour ends upon arrival in Hanoi.
