04-days Laos Travel. Splendor of the South
Laos is considered as Southeast Asia’s most pristine environment with intact cultures and quite possibly the most chilled-out people on the earth. It is located on the axis of the Lower Mekong River and shares borders with Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, Thailand to the west, and Myanmar and China to the north. Most of the country is covered by mountains and rivers, giving its stunning natural landscapes.
With the population of just over six million, Laos is one of the least populated countries in the region. Tourists to Laos today will experience the richness of the Theravada Buddhist culture, the long history of the country, the lifestyle of different interesting ethnic minorities, beautiful nature and especially the absence of 21st century prosperity.
Pakse is a charming old colonial town in the Champassak province of southern Laos. It is one of the biggest towns of the country and a transportation clue of the area. Coming to Champassak, tourists can contemplate the ancient beauty of a temple built in Khmer Architecture – Wat Phu. Wat Phu is believed to be at least four centuries older than the Angkor Wat of Cambodia. Other wats worth seeing are Wat Luang and Wat Tham Fai. You also should not miss to visit Si Phan Don (the Four Thousand Islands), Li Phi Waterfalls (one of the most beautiful in Asia), Khong Island where the rare fresh water dolphins can be seen, and the Phabeng waterfall which is probably the wildest waterfalls in the world.
