Situated at the confluence of the Mekong and the Nam Khan Rivers, Luang Prabang was the former capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage city. As a visitor, you cannot help but be amazed by the tidiness and cleanliness of perhaps the most charming city in Southeast Asia. Luang Prabang is famous for its rich cultural heritage, relaxing atmosphere, stunning scenery and friendly people.

Luang Prabang is a wonderful patchwork of traditional Lao wooden houses and hints of European architecture. Golden-roofed temples, decorated with mosaics and murals of the life of Buddha are the places that you cannot ignore once visiting Laos. Wat Xieng Thong is one of the finest pagodas in Luang Prabang. Built in 1559 by King Setthathirat, it represents the most typical example of the Luang Prabang style. The National Museum (former Royal Palace) contains a collection of 15th to 17th century Buddhist statues including the famous Golden Buddha and the a rare Khmer bronze drum. This small wooden palace was built in the early 20th century by the French in Khmer Style. Phousi Hill, a hilltop temple, provides a panoramic view of Luang Prabang. Other interesting sites around Luang Prabang include Pak Ou Cave, Ban Sanghai Village, Ban Phanom and the Kuangsi Waterfalls.

Vientiane is also home to many temples and Buddhist monuments of Laos. The most must-see site here is the golden Pha That Luang, which was built in the third century A.D. Pha That Luang preserves the relic of the Buddha and is considered as the most sacred Buddhist monument of the country. Wat Sisaket is a traditional Laotian monastery as well as the oldest monastery in Vientiane. It is built in 1818 during the reign of King Anou and is one of the most important buildings in Vientiane, having survived the Thai invasion in the early 19th century. Coming to the city of Vientiane, tourists can also visit many other interesting sites such as the Buddha Park, Wat Si Muang, Patuxai, the Cultural Center, Friendship Bridge, Wat Pakeo, Victory Gate and the Talat Sao (Morning Market).
