Situated at the confluence of the Mekong and the Nam Khan Rivers, Luang Prabang was the former capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage city. As a visitor, you cannot help but be amazed by the tidiness and cleanliness of perhaps the most charming city in Southeast Asia. Luang Prabang is famous for its rich cultural heritage, relaxing atmosphere, stunning scenery and friendly people.
Luang Prabang is a wonderful patchwork of traditional Lao wooden houses and hints of European architecture. Golden-roofed temples, decorated with mosaics and murals of the life of Buddha are the places that you cannot ignore once visiting Laos. Wat Xieng Thong is one of the finest pagodas in Luang Prabang. Built in 1559 by King Setthathirat, it represents the most typical example of the Luang Prabang style. The National Museum (former Royal Palace) contains a collection of 15th to 17th century Buddhist statues including the famous Golden Buddha and the a rare Khmer bronze drum. This small wooden palace was built in the early 20th century by the French in Khmer Style. Phousi Hill, a hilltop temple, provides a panoramic view of Luang Prabang. Other interesting sites around Luang Prabang include Pak Ou Cave, Ban Sanghai Village, Ban Phanom and the Kuangsi Waterfalls.
Vientiane is also home to many temples and Buddhist monuments of Laos. The most must-see site here is the golden Pha That Luang, which was built in the third century A.D. Pha That Luang preserves the relic of the Buddha and is considered as the most sacred Buddhist monument of the country. Wat Sisaket is a traditional Laotian monastery as well as the oldest monastery in Vientiane. It is built in 1818 during the reign of King Anou and is one of the most important buildings in Vientiane, having survived the Thai invasion in the early 19th century. Coming to the city of Vientiane, tourists can also visit many other interesting sites such as the Buddha Park, Wat Si Muang, Patuxai, the Cultural Center, Friendship Bridge, Wat Pakeo, Victory Gate and the Talat Sao (Morning Market).
Day 1 ARRIVAL-Luangphrabang-halfdaytour
Transfer to chosen hotel. Leisurely lunch followed by a visit to Wat Xienthong the most famous and beautiful temple in the old town dating back to the 16th century. After visiting Wat Visoun and the Melon Stupa and Wat Aham then climb the 328 steps up to Mount phousi for the sunset. On the way back visit the night market.
Day 2 Luangphrabang –Pak Ou Cave (B)
After breakfast, embark for a slow boat trip to Pak Ou cave 32km up river and along the way make stop to visit the whisky village and discover the process villagers use to make Lau Lao ( potent rice whisky) then continue to the cave where a thousand Buddha figures are kept. After the visit, we will take a break for lunch at a typical local restaurant then back downstream to Luang Phrabang. Short 12km trip by private car to Ban Xangkhong (ethnic weaving village & Mulberry paper village) and back to your hotel
Day 3 Luangphrabang – Kuangsi Water Falls (B)
In the morning after breakfast start the day by driving through the Lao countryside by minivan to the Kuangsi water fall located some 29km away. On the way we make a stop at the Minority Hmong village and stop for pictures of the beautiful lush scenery along the way. On arrival at the falls we take a cooling swim in the fall’s turquoise waters and enjoy a picnic lunch. Back mid-afternoon to Luang Phrabang
Day 4 Luangphrabang - Vientiane (B)
A very early morning start (5:45am) by car to Ban Vat Sean to observe a long line of monks collecting alms’s ceremony then back for breakfast prior to check out from the hotel. The morning continues by visiting the former Royal Palace before transferring to LP airport for your 40 minute flight to Vientiane. On arrival transfer to hotel and free time at leisure to explore LPDR’s small but extremely vibrant capital.
Day 5 Vientiane-city tour -Departure(B)
Morning after early breakfast, we visit the city’s most important temples such Vat Visaket , Vat Phrakeo, Vat Thadluang , Patu Xay (the national victory monument) then visit the morning market. Afternoon transfer to international airport.
