03-days in Vientiane, Traveling Laos

Stretched out on the northeastern bank of a bend in the Mekong River, Vientiane is the capital as well as the largest city of Laos. Compared to the hectic, bustling capitals in other Southeast Asian countries, Vientiane’s relaxing atmosphere makes it feel like a small town.

Vientiane is also home to many temples and Buddhist monuments of Laos. The most must-see site here is the golden Pha That Luang, which was built in the third century A.D. Pha That Luang preserves the relic of the Buddha and is considered as the most sacred Buddhist monument of the country. Wat Sisaket is a traditional Laotian monastery as well as the oldest monastery in Vientiane. It is built in 1818 during the reign of King Anou and is one of the most important buildings in Vientiane, having survived the Thai invasion in the early 19th century. Coming to the city of Vientiane, tourists can also visit many other interesting sites such as the Buddha Park, Wat Si Muang, Patuxai, the Cultural Center, Friendship Bridge, Wat Pakeo, Victory Gate and the Talat Sao (Morning Market).
