Phu Quoc, which is referred to as the emerald island, is the largest island of Vietnam as well as the largest one in the archipelago of 22 here. Phu Quoc is famous not only for its traditional products of fish sauce and black pepper but also for many cultural-historical relics and attractive nature-awarded landscape. Phu Quoc is off the coast of Cambodia, though  is part of, and only accessible from, Vietnam. It is a very mountainous and densely forested island of 1320 square km. The economy is centered around fishing, agriculture and a fast-growing tourism sector. Phu Quoc is becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations of Vietnam.

Climate

On the island has two seasons: rainy season and dry season. The southwest monsoon blows strong in the hip from May 5 to May 10. Dry season with the Northeast monsoon is convenient for travel. In general, climate in Phu Quoc is fairly mild (the stable high), almost year-round are cool.

Get in

There are three ways to reach Phu Quoc Island, namely traveling by air, cruising or by road, then catching a speedboat to the island.

By Air:
Phu Quoc is served by Phu Quoc Airport with air links to Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat Airport and Rach Gia Airport. From Ho Chi Minh, there are about 06 – 10 flights departing for Phu Quoc per day. You can book tickets issued by various airlines, which cost from 830,000 VND/one-way ticket.
By Cruise ships or Boats:
Visitors from any country arriving to Phu Quoc by cruise ship no longer need a visa for stays of up to 15 days. A passport with at least 45 days' validity is still necessary
By roades:
Guests departing from Saigon can buy a bus ticket (appox.VND150,000) moving to Rach Gia. The distance from Saigon to Rach Gia is about 250 km. Then spend VND 250,000 for boat ticket to Bai Vong dock, Phu Quoc Island. The boat trip lasts about 2,5 hours.

Cuisine

As an nature-endowed island, Phu Quoc has a plentiful source of seafood with its own taste. You should not miss the chance to enjoy the special dishes of Ham Ninh flower crab, sea cucumber, pinch, Tet Cat Phu Quoc cake, Phu Quoc pancakes, Phu Quoc Tram mushroom, Sour snake-head fish soup, Fish cooked with mango hotpot, etc.
Specially, Phu Quoc has worldwide been famous for its two traditional products: the pepper and fish sauce. Visitors will be amazed at the sight of dozens of bulky barrels being lined up and waiting to be jammed with fresh fish. You will be tempted to try a few pungent green pepper coins and half a spoonful of the tasty salty sauce. Noodles with shrimp and squid is popular breakfast dish in Phu Quoc Island.

Quoc Anh Restaurant: No. 55 – Street 30/4 - Quarter I - Duong Dong Town. Quoc Anh Restaurant offers typical food of coastal residents such as steamed fish sauce, rice with crab, sour soup, Tram mushroom soup, seafood noodles, crab noodles, fried fish cake, and dried seafood noodles.
Tuoi Tham Restaurant: Lying nearby My Linh Hotel, Tuoi Tham Restaurant offers cheap yet delicious and is well-known for sour soup.
Some restaurants such as Chongyang, Le Giang and My Lan are highly recommended thanks to their diversed menu, especially herring salad.

Sleep

In Phu Quoc exists hotels of various rating, ranging from luxury hotels to budget ones to meet the demand of every travelers going on Phu Quoc Tours. If your trip to Phu Quoc Island falls in high season, hotel room should be book in advance (01 – 02 months prior to your arrival).
